The Weight of Grief

Have you seen this? The statue is a creation of artist Celeste Roberge, who clearly has lost a loved one and knows this feeling. If you've experienced a heavy loss, chances are you've felt this weight of grief. There may be days you feel like the stones you carry are boulders; other days, it may feel like gravel. I feel my grief smack in the middle of my chest, where the heaviness feels like an elephant took up residence there and occasionally moves off to go get a snack or something. But there are also times when the weight moves to fill my whole body and all I can do is collapse somewhere until the feeling goes away. My thought is that Ms. Roberge knows this feeling.
